Cleveland Area Medical Student Residency Housing Programs & Options

Congratulations to all the medical students who are now preparing for their residency. Case Western University students were filled with many anxious and exciting smiles on Match Day, March 16th, 2012. Cleveland, Ohio is a medical mecca with many hospitals. If you’re a new doctor, you may be calling Cleveland home for a while, and there are many options for you to consider.

Cleveland and Northeast, Ohio has many different housing options. New construction condos, lofts, town homes, multi-family properties, lakefront condos, downtown living including high-rise condos, some with lake views and single-family homes. If you’re considering any of these options, you will find many choices within 30 minutes to all the major hospitals such as Metro Health Medical Center, CWRU, Cleveland Clinic and UH/University Hospitals of Greater Cleveland.

There are many western Cities and great neighborhoods. These are all quite close to Cleveland’s hospitals. Some include Lakewood which offers multi-family homes, rentals, high-rise condos on Lake Erie, also known as the Gold Coast and row/town homes. There are also neighborhoods of Cleveland that have gone through revitalization and major rehab. Some hot spot locations are Tremont, West Park, Ohio City, Detroit Shoreway and the West Blvd area. These are on the west side of Cleveland and close to the highway (2 and I-90) leaving a very short commute to Metro Health Medical Center.

There are also great Neighborhoods and cities on the eastern side of Cleveland. These include Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights/square, University Heights and Circle, Coventry, Little Italy/Murray Hill.

The Cleveland cities and areas above are where most of the medical students we work with end up looking and liking. These areas have great night life, restaurants, shops, theaters, coffee houses and offer a great location to bike, walk and run. While we always encourage people to shop their own neighborhoods to see for themselves, some aren’t able to do that and it can be a confusing decision.
